Essay#1

Nuclear power in the
UAE

Introduction

Nuclear energy is energy that comes from Uranium. Uranium is a natural metal that we can find it in all over world. Nuclear energy is created in a complex ways in nuclear power stations. Nuclear power is the renewable energy for these days, because a lot of countries are depends on oil. So these countries are looking for different sourced for the future. One of these countries is UAE. The following paragraphs will discuss the nuclear energy in the UAE and how it was discovered and developed it.

Early history

In 1932, James Chadwick discovered the neutron, and they agree that it was available to use it for nuclear experimentation because of lake of an electric charge in it. In 1938, some scientists worked together in some experiment of neutron bombarded uranium. In 1939, scientists from Germany have found that splitting the atoms of some elements such as Plutonium and Uranium can generate energy. The first reactor in the world has been built in the United States in 1942 known as “Chicago Pile-1” which was a part of a huge project called “Manhattan Project”. In 1954, the USSR’s obninsk nuclear power plant became the first plant that used nuclear power to generate electric energy and produce around 5 megawatts of electric power.

 Development

The major use of nuclear power in the beginning of its appearance in the 1930s and 1940s was to build the nuclear bombs for the military field. The “Manhattan Project” that mentioned before has built the nuclear bombs used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki which caused thousands of deaths in the World War II. In the 1970s, Jimmy Carter decided to get rid of the nuclear weapons and to utilize the nuclear power for more peaceful uses.

Modern Development

After the nuclear became dangerous, the scientist tried to use this power to get other source of energy. One of the countries that want to use this power in a positive way is UAE. According to Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), they will set the first concert at the coastal site of Baraka.it is located 300 west of Abu Dhabi, and there are 5000 workers from more than 10 countries are live there already.  South Korean consortium supplied four reactors and planned to use it between 2017 and 2020. They also try to be the first Arab nation to produce nuclear power. The project is cost almost $20 billion. UAE will improve the uranium in six different countries. UAE want another source that it can produce 25% of the electricity, and they found it in nuclear power, and because it is most effective and clear source of energy. As the writer discussed “ Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) is set to pour the first concrete tomorrow at the costal site of Baraka, where four nuclear reactors supplied by a South Korean consortium are scheduled to come online between 2017 and 2020” (Yee, A. 2012)

Conclusion

To conclude all things discussed before, nuclear energy had an obvious impact on the world and it will be the major resource of energy on the future because the current resource which is the oil will finish after a couple of years. This paper discusses the early history of nuclear energy and the steps on which the atoms have been discovered. In addition, the development of nuclear energy took a part of this paper. In other word, how they used nuclear energy in 1940s. However, the other part was about modern development, how they use nuclear energy to get the benefits things. In my opinion, I thing nuclear power will be the energy that every county will depends on it in the future.
